Oh Brother: Sex as a Stumbling Block

Written by , Posted in faith, life, Uncategorized

As a Christian person with a decidedly adult sense of humor, I’ve thought a lot about what it means not to be a stumbling block. As a Christian person with a decidedly adult sense of humor and a moderately well read blog, I’ve thought about it even more. And thanks to Peter Parker’s Uncle Ben, I know that with moderate power comes moderate responsibility. But what I’ve had a hard time coming to is what exactly my responsibility is when it comes to sex as a stumbling block.

I’m happy to be guest posting for my friend Joy at her lovely blog, Joy in this Journey, today. It’s been my honor to watch Joy grow in boldness as she shares her struggles and triumphs of faith.

And let me tell you– it’s a bold move to invite the wild child of the Christian blogosphere to write about sex on your blog. So, do me a favor? Come give us some love.

Dear Tamara, I think what you do with your blog is wonderful. I have never felt in any way conducted to think about the “dark side”, and that precisely is the problem of a person who thinks (aka BLOGS) out loud. When you do, you leave yourself vulnerable to other people’s interpretations. However, I think there is a huge gap in the communication and free thinking among Christians regarding sex in the marriage, and that it’s actually a blessing from God to have it and (OH WOW!!) even enjoy it!
I just hope that the good and encouraging words outnumber the bad and that you never feel the need to turn tame on us, your loving readers.

    Have a wonderful weekend!
    Marie

Thanks so much for the encouragement, Maria! And don’t worry– I don’t think I have it in me to turn tame. 😉

You are kinda’ freaking hot. Hard to blame them too much… kidding, kidding. This is your husband, by the way 🙂

Very well put. In another life, I was a detective that specialized in sex crimes and crimes against children (a-la Law and Order: SVU). Those experiences made me all-to-familiar with sex and the destruction it can cause. Thanks for your post…you did a great job reminding us that we need to look on our brothers and sisters in Christ as just that. Although, living in the South, I think that’s kinda allowed :D. Oh, and from your guest post I found three other writers to follow and encourage me in my faith walk. Amen!
